Become one of our 30 International Trainees at Vattenfall. Each of the trainee positions is unique, linked to a department within a specific business area and a working location. This means that each position has its own specific responsibilities, challenges and matching profile. 

Next to your personal development in this unique position you will be enjoying one year of all we have to offer. Your trainee year will be filled with meetups with your international trainee team with likeminded individuals. You will be meeting up virtually to work on assignments and live during four seminar weeks where you will be visiting our power plants and growing your superpowers with a variety of trainings.  

The procurement traineeship has the objective to enhance our talent pool of Procurement professionals. It is the target to employ young talented persons with an infinite development potential, drive and vast interest in a career in sourcing.

The trainee programme will offer the focus and framework for the trainees to develop towards an high performing procurement professional at Vattenfall.


  • The focus of the role is to become familiar and fluent in all aspects related to Sourcing in preparation of a role as Buyer.

  • Annual spend to be managed as a Trainee is estimated at € 1 Mio.

  • Annual spend to be managed in the role as Buyer is estimated at € 10 Mio.

Key responsibilities as a Trainee

  • Integrate fully into the local Procurement organization;

  • Complete all necessary trainings;

  • Successful complete buyer entry-level assignments;

  • Successfully present learnings and experiences to the Procurement Management Team.

Key responsibilities as a Buyer

  • Responsible for purchasing services and materials, taking into account cost-effective, timely provision for the company and taking into account the required quality. Develop RFQ, manage and maintain supplier documentation, coordinate supplier selection based on TCO. Liaise with requesters to drive spend through preferred suppliers;

  • Interact with stakeholders to understand sourcing requirements and needs. Support and work closely with Sourcing Managers.

Key tasks as a Buyer

  • Support with tendering and negotiation of Business needs as required (material/services) based on purchase requisitions;

  • Ensuring competition and safeguarding corporate interests, adhering to compliance and corporate guidelines;

  • Work closely with Business to choose best options for goods and services while bringing value and savings to the company;

  • Support with supplier management and maintenance of all essential documentation;

  • Support with contract controlling and clarification of contract and service disruptions;

  • Work actively on cost reduction and optimization potentials in connection with requirements and suppliers;

  • Participate in the provision of price forecasts for budget planning.


You will be working in the department Procurement and the position is located in Amsterdam in The Netherlands.

Selection period starts after the application period is closed with online tests followed by interviews in March.  An assessment is also part of the recruitment process and will take place in April. The recruitment process will be finalized in May. The last step will be a pre-employment screening. Starting date of the Vattenfall International Trainee Programme will be September 4th 2023.
